A monument to the poet Vasyl Symonenko was installed in the city of Cherkassy in 2010. Located near the historic monument to Shcherbina house (today the building occupies a local RAPS), and the newspaper "Young Cherkasy," in which a young writer worked. The poet of the sixties was also the correspondent of the newspaper "Pravda Cherkasy" and "Working newspaper", his anti-Soviet poetry became very popular among free-thinkers, though illegally distributed by samizdat. Vasyl Symonenko died at the age of 28 after a severe beating. This is attributed to his public activities, which was aimed at exposing the criminal activities of the NKVD.

The author of the monument is a well-known sculptor Vladislav Diymon. At the height of the monument, two and a half meters took about a ton bronze. The dynamic figure of the poet as if shrouded in angel wings, which symbolizes the spark of God, talent.

With this monument, and related scandal, as well-known architects and experts have accused the sculptor Diymona that he created two identical monument - a monument to Taras Shevchenko in Novomirgorod Kirovograd region and the monument to Vladimir Simonenko in Cherkassy. Similarities and indeed can be tracked not only in the figure of the poet, but also in the composition. According to the author, he began to work on these monuments is almost at the same time, however, create two completely different sculptures. A certain similarity can be explained by the identity of the fate of these remarkable people for the Ukrainian culture.

Not far from the monument to the young Simonenko, open room-museum where you can learn about the life and work of the poet.
