Museum of Art is an integral part of the Cherepovets museum association. From the structure of the museum of local lore, he stood out in 1938 and, 19 years later, in 1957, for exhibitions of art collections, he was given a small room on Lenin Street, where a museum until 1992. Today Art Museum is located in a two-story house №30-a (top floor) on the Soviet Avenue. Two exhibition halls occupy an area of ​​1,000 m². Here are arranged permanent exhibitions: "Russian art of the late XVIII- early XX centuries", "Russian Orthodox art of XIV-XIX centuries" and "Arts and Crafts of the Vologda region".

The exhibition "Russian art of the late XVIII-early XX centuries" you can see paintings of famous Russian artists: Borovykovs'kogo, Rokotoff, Tyurin, Makarov Tyutryumova, Bogolyubov, Repin Kustodiev and others. Submitted work of Jean-Laurent Monnier and Johann-Baptist Lampi. Of particular note is the painting "The phenomenon of the angel to the shepherds," the artist Petrovsky (student K. Bryullov), marked in 1839 by the Grand Gold Medal.

In addition to the exhibition of paintings presented here glass era of Catherine II, bronze art, Russian and German porcelain and musical instruments (polyphony mikofon, gramophone record player).

The exhibition "Russian Orthodox art of XIV-XIX centuries" presented unique monuments of icon painting, embroideries, early printed books and manuscripts, religious casting (Panagia, crosses, folding, etc.), mother of pearl, wood sculpture .  Here you can see the oldest and the only icon in the Vologda region of the XIV century, which depicts St. Nicholas, especially revered in Russia .  Very beautiful icons of XV-XVII centuries .  They are created by local craftsmen under the influence of iconic center of Tver, Rostov, Novgorod and the art of the peasants of the Russian North .  They were exhibited in Genoa, Vatican, Japan, Macedonia, Florence, Cyprus .  In addition, the exhibition presents the work of "John the Theologian in silence" masters Armory T .  Ivanov and subscription 2 icons, one of which was painted by iconographer and .  Grigorieva .  Very interesting exhibits embroideries of the XVII century: the Shroud "The Entombment of Jesus Christ," the church banners, priest vestments and other . 

Book collection of the museum is represented by manuscripts and incunabula, XV-XIX centuries. You can see examples of ancient handwriting. Among the incunabula released "Octoechos", dated 1594 year. The exposition of folk art acquaints visitors with household items and clothing farmers northern province of Novgorod. Here you can also see the local spinning wheels, sleigh, hats for women, embroidered river, including Sheksninsky pearls.

When art museum founded a small gallery of modern art. Here is a work of local and visiting artists, regardless of the manner of writing and style. In addition, there are organized exhibitions of future artists - students of the school of arts and graphic arts department of the Chechen State University. In one of the halls of art museum - Blue room - are poetic, musical, creative meetings and evenings; organized a presentation of books and booklets.

The open air museum, which shows the Church of the Assumption in the village Nelazskoe and St. Nicholas in the village Dmitriev, made of wood, is a branch of the Art Museum. They date from the second half of the XVII century. The interior of churches and their unique construction and design features provide an excellent opportunity to watch masterpieces of Russian architecture.
