The name of the island of St. Nicholas was due to a medieval church, located on his land, named in honor of the saint. The appearance here of the temple dates back to the 16th century. In addition to the church and placed around the ancient tombs on the island there are no other buildings and residents - it is uninhabited. It is believed that in the graves surrounding the medieval church, plague victims buried the Crusaders.

Sveti Nikola Island as the locals call it, is recognized as the largest on the Adriatic coast: the length of the island is 2 km away. From the city of Budva it is separated by only 1 km away. On the island at low tide, you can get there on foot from the beach of Slavic shallow track, depth 0, 5 m.

One legend says that the track appeared thanks to Saint Sava. When he could not because of a strong storm to reach the galleys, goes to Mount Athos, he threw into the sea a few large rocks and through this was able to go to the ship and climb on it.

The surface of the island is covered with dense evergreen vegetation. It is home to many varieties of birds and animals. Cosy sandy beaches of the island, thanks to its small size, it is very popular among tourists, eager and willing to retreat a little to be alone with nature. Also, from here you can admire stunning views of the city and its surroundings.

From Budva to the island and back boats run regularly delivering vacationers to the right place just a few minutes. The island of St. Nicholas are very fond of the local population and is popular among visitors.
