Steam locomotive monument Eu 708-64 is at the railway station Volkhovstroy-1 in Volkhov, Leningrad Region. The station was opened at the beginning of the XX century - in 1904, the newly erected lines of St. Petersburg - Vologda. Originally called Zvanka, and in 1934 it was renamed Volkhovstroy.

Steam locomotive Eu 708-64 applies to locomotives series E. The axial formula locomotive - 0-5-0 (locomotive with 5-Tew driving axles in the first rigid frame). It was built in the USSR and operated here. The length of the locomotive is 11456 mm, the mass of workers - 85, 6 t, Trailer Weight - is the same cylinder 2, constructional speed is 55 km / h. It has the steam distribution mechanism Valskharta.

This first locomotive after a siege of Leningrad brought train with ammunition and food to the Finland Station. It was February 7, 1943. The locomotive belonged to the locomotive depot Volkhovstroy city. After the locomotive went to the reserve of the Ministry of Railways (MPS) and housed at the station Belgorod Southern Railway. Thanks to the initiative volhovstroyskih railroad veteran, after negotiations with the Ministry of Railways, it was decided to bring the locomotive back to Volkhov to set it as a memorial.

Currently, the locomotive is presented in the original form of the monument feats railwaymen. It is located on the platform of the train station Volkhov. In order to be able to lift a locomotive on a pedestal, it was built a temporary railway line, because at that time there were no lift design, the ability to raise a heavy object.

Victory Day 1980 took place the opening ceremony of the monument. The event was followed by a rally. The honor to open the memorial was given to people who worked during the Second World War in office, including the participants of the first flight from the mainland to Leningrad: MS Diaghilev AM Alexeyeva TS Ryazanov, as well as former deputy chief of depot repair GA Afanasyev.
