Messner Mountain Museum, founded by the Italian mountaineer, first climbed all 14 "eight-thousanders" of the world, located in Bolzano in five different places. A unique project consists of the main museum center, based in Castello Firmian, and its branches in Juval, Dolomites, Ortler and Reap. All five buildings are connected by a network of trails, which is also part of the project, as well as open during the transitions between exposures magnificent landscapes of South Tyrol.

As mentioned above, the central core of the Mountain Museum Firmian is Castello, he's Sigmundskron, located in the outskirts of Bolzano. The castle was built in the Middle Ages, and today it houses the headquarters of the museum and the administrative offices and the main activities are carried out. There is also a small theater can accommodate up to 200 people. The museum was opened in 2006, after three years of restoration work. I must say that the appearance of the castle as a result of this work has remained virtually unchanged - the new glass roof and ventilation system, and a variety of cables are not visible from the outside, thanks to the idea of the architect Werner Zoll.

The total area of the exhibition halls in Castello Firmian - 1100 sq.m. Its main theme is devoted to the history and development of mountaineering. Messner wanted to show "what effect the mountain has on people" and introduce people to the inaccessible peaks and their conquerors. Here you can see paintings, photographs, sculptures, symbolic images and objects, as well as memorabilia of various expeditions, and learn about the impact of mountaineering and mountain tourism on the environment and the ecosystem. It also posted a separate exhibition about the history of the castle and the South Tyrol.

Another section of the Mining Museum is located in a medieval castle Yuval near the town of Naturno, 40 km from Bolzano. The castle is privately owned by Messner and serves as his summer residence. Opened in 1995, the exposition is dedicated to the mountains as the mystical and spiritual objects and centered around the spiritualist centers such as Kailash in Nepal, Mount Fuji in Japan, rock Ayers Rock in Australia. Here you can see the sculpture of the Buddha, a giant prayer wheel, a collection of masks, tantric room and expedition hall.

On the hill between the towns of Monte Rita Cortina d'Ampezzo and Pieve di Cadore in the fort during the First World War, posted the third part of the Mining Museum Messner - MMM Dolomites. This "museum in the clouds" was opened in the year 2002 and is dedicated to the Dolomites.

The fourth section of the museum is underground between the towns and the Ortler Sulden. Since its opening in 2004, the year it introduces visitors to the history of skiing, climbing, and tells the story of the development of the Arctic and Antarctic. The exhibition a total area of 300 sq.m. You can see the real eternal ice and even be inside a glacier. There, in Suldene is a tiny old house in an area of only 12 square meters, which displays portraits of the legendary 13 climbers, including Reinhold Messner himself.

Finally, the last section of the Mountain Museum - MMM Ripa - is located in the castle town of the same name from Brunico. This interactive exhibition, which involves the exchange of views and experiences among all lovers of the mountains, as well as talks about the interaction of climbers and ordinary inhabitants of mountainous areas.
