Ilica - the name of the main street in Zagreb, is the capital of Croatia. On Ilica are many shops, cafes and restaurants as well as cultural centers. On this street, the Croatian capital property is considered to be the most expensive.
Ilica is located in downtown Zagreb. The length of the street about 6, 4 kilometers, making it the third longest in Zagreb. Ilica passes through the western part of the capital from the west to the east. In the beginning it is Ban Jelacic Square, then it passes through and ends Chrnomorets Bologna Boulevard.
Previously it called Ilica Loncharskoy expensive (in Croatian means "Goncharsky way"). The modern name of the street was given in honor of the creek Ilica, who live near the master potters. On the banks of the creek was extracted clay from which produced pottery. Not far from the church of St. Margaret, which is on the edge of Ilica, in the Middle Ages, it is the center of the Lower Town.
For the first time the name "Ilica" in written sources in 1431. Its modern form has got to the end of the street of the 18th century. From 1956 to 1959 at Ilica (Jelacic Square) to build the first high-rise building in Zagreb. This 16-storey building repaired in 2007.
Today Ilica is a commercial and business center of the Croatian capital. There are banks, offices, shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars and cafeterias.
