Azov fortress and Alekseevskaya Gate - the main attractions of the city of Azov, located outside of Genoa, near the old fish factory. The first most thorough study of the monument took place during the excavation in 1935

Ramparts of the fortress were built in XVI - XVII Art. Turks, and in the XVIII century. Russian rebuilt. The author of the project was a military engineer Laval.
  The fortress, which was first captured by the Cossacks, and then archers Peter I, destroyed in the middle of the XVIII century. The only defensive structure left over from the fortress became Alekseevskaya gates.

In total, there were eleven shafts gates are in good state of preservation only Alekseevskaya, built of stone and brick. At the time of excavation gates were in the form of two parallel stone walls (pylons), located in the end of the rampart. Their length is 13 m. The distance between the stone walls was more than 3 m. The walls were covered with Alekseevskaya gate hewn stone. They were originally built in the wooden form, but in 1801-1805 they rebuilt in stone. Finally the gates were restored in the XX century.

Inside the ramparts of Azov remained. They stretch for several hundred meters. The height of the trees varies from 4 to 15 m, width - from 10 to 30 m. In the street Dzerzhinsky today you can see the moat, built in the XVI century. Its length is 100 m and depth - 12 m.
