Nea Makri - a small Greek village in the north-eastern part of Attica, 32 km from Athens. It is located near the valley of Marathon, where in 490 BC during the Greco-Persian wars took place the famous battle of Marathon. Nearby are the town of Marathon and the port of Rafina (one of the largest ports in Attica). To the west rises the mountain of Penteli, famous for their marble. On the coast, washed by the Evoikos Gulf, offering stunning views of one of the biggest Greek islands - Euboea.

This area was once called Piesti, but after the Asia Minor Catastrophe (Greek military campaign in Asia Minor) in 1922 and the subsequent repatriation of Greeks from Macri, it was renamed in Nea Makri (New Macri). In 2011, the local government was reorganized and became an administrative unit of the municipality of Marathon.

Outside the city rises Mount Amomon. At its foot is the Monastery of the Annunciation, better known among both the Greek Orthodox Monastery of St. Ephrem, one of the most revered saints in Greece. In this monastery and the relics of St. Ephraim. Also on the territory of the monastery are the holy spring and the tree on which, according to tradition, was martyred monk Ephraim.

Along the shoreline is a cozy hotel and an abundance of restaurants, bars and discos will not be bored active tourists. Here there is also a picturesque small port for fishing boats.
