Ruins of ancient Licks - this is one of the main historical attractions of Morocco, located north of the seaport of Larache on the right bank of the river Wadi Lukkus.

Ancient buildings that were found in the country are the ruins of the Phoenician colonies. The oldest of them is Licks, founded in 1146 BC. e. Around that time, the Phoenicians were built and other trading cities on the African coast of the Mediterranean Sea, which became important ports. City Licks needed Phoenicians as a base on the outskirts of the silver mines in Spain, as well as swimming on the island of Madeira and the Canary Islands, from where they took dyes for their world-famous purple cloth.

Later, Phoenician colony became part of Carthage. After some time, Carthage went into decline, while Licks became part of the Roman Empire and an outpost of the Roman province. Today Licks - is the ruins of ancient buildings and picturesque nature. There is practically not carried out any research and excavations.

The Licks you can see preserved ruins of the I century amphitheater, which could accommodate more than one hundred people. Behind the theater are well preserved baths with amazing mosaics. In the heart of one of the largest and most beautiful mosaic inserts is the god Neptune, whose image, much to the chagrin, became a victim of vandals. In the central part of the city is a very ancient Christian basilica.

On the ocean side, you can see the large stone blocks that are mysterious and enigmatic appearance - a monstrously huge monoliths in the bottom of an ocean pier. A little further on is hanging on the cooler indoor dolmen. During low tide on the flat bottom of the ocean, you can see the individual rectangular monolithic blocks of the walls of the ancient port.

If we imagine Licks looked like 2000 years ago, we can say without doubt that this was one of the most powerful and beautiful cities of antiquity.
