Casalmaggiore - a small beautiful town in the province of Cremona in the Italian region of Lombardy, attracting tourists historical and architectural monuments and interesting museums .  Its origin is still shrouded in mystery .  Discovered in 1970, the so-called "Stazione Enea" in the temple fountain and finds made in the area Fossakaprara, suggest that settlement on the site of modern Casalmaggiore there since the Bronze Age .  The first written mention of the city are found in the caption below the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the church of San Giovanni near Izolabella Batttista .  In the 11th century, Casalmaggiore was known as Estensi family castle, and in the 15th century the city was in the power of the Venetian Republic .  The favorable geographical location also played a role in the city's history - there was the residence of the Duke of Milan and the Marquis of Mantua, and also has a French and Spanish troops .

Centre Casalmaggiore is Piazza Garibaldi, designed in the 17th century. In 1813, the year it was paved and acquired its present appearance. Then there was the reconstruction of the Town Hall, which stands on the square. Close to Piazza Garibaldi located Palazzo Markezelli and the former church of Santa Croce, which now hosts a variety of events.

Another attraction is a unique Casalmaggiore Jewelry Museum, located in a former college Order Barnabites. It was founded in 1986 and today is kept in its collection more than 35 thousand items - earrings, rings, sunglasses, bracelets, brooches, pendants, elegant cigarette cases, powder boxes, icons, and more. I must say that once Casalmaggiore was one of the main European centers for the production of jewelry, which was sold around the world.

Another noteworthy museum - Museum Diotti dedicated to 19-th century. It is located in the house of Giuseppe Diotii - old building, renovated in 1837 for a professor of the Academy of Carrara, who spent the last years of his life. The house has kept its collection of works of art, and also has a workshop where he worked Diotti and taught others.

From Casalmaggiore religious buildings worth seeing the Cathedral of Santo Stefano, built in the mid-19th century, standing next to the convent of Santa Chiara of the 16th century and the church fountain, built in 1463, the year the Order of Capuchins. Last remarkable Gothic architecture and the crypt with the miraculous source in the center. There is also the tomb of painter Francesco Mazzola, known as Il Parmigianino.
