Lakatnitskie cliffs are sheer cliffs, reaching in some places 250 meters and resembles a hand, bent at the elbow. Rocks are on dissecans ridge of Stara Panina Iskar Gorge (on its left slope) at the railway station Lakatnik. The bizarre rock formations due to their composition, which consists of sandstone and limestone, weathered over time. Some of the rocks resemble the peaks and towers, and some are like mushrooms or pyramid.

Lakatnitskie rocks are highly developed karst. Its limestone rocks over a hundred caves and chasms. The longest is dark Dupka, its length is about 9 kilometers. In 1966, the rock Lakatnitskie declared protected area to preserve the characteristic landscape and rock formations, caves, as well as the local flora and fauna. This area is only confirmed by the population of Silene velcevii (view campion flower), which is endemic to the Bulgarian.

Among rock climbers Lakatnitskie very popular, they are divided into six areas, which laid more than 350 routes of varying difficulty. The most popular accursed hole, located in the canyon of the river Proboynitsy, and alpine meadow.

Place over Lakatnik was one of the first in Bulgaria, the birthplace of the local climbing. Many tourists come to this area to visit the cave. The most famous cave dark hole Kozarska, pig, and Zidanka Ryzhishka. Caves landscaped Lakatnitskih no mountains, so their visit to the necessary equipment and support of an experienced guide.
