The city of Viseu, located on a hill, is known not only in that it is one of the largest cities in Europe without a railway station, but also the fact that in the 16th century it was one of the most important schools of painting of Portugal, known for such famous artists as a landscape painter Caspar your and Vasco Fernandes, known as Grand Prix Vasco.
Near the cathedral is the Museum of Viseu Granu Vasco. His first director - Francisco de Almeida Moreira - was an avid collector of works of art in different directions and has devoted much of his life to collecting works of Portuguese artists.
Almeida Moreira Museum is arranged in the home of Francisco de Almeida Moreira, where he lived all his life. According to his will, after his death, the house became the town. The house and its complete collection was inherited by the city of Viseu in 1939.
The museum was built in the Moorish style. Inside the museum we can enjoy the works of contemporary art and a library, which contains the classic literature and manuscripts Almeida Moreira. Among the museum's collection - the classical products of porcelain and earthenware XVII-XVIII century, sculptures and national XX century furniture, paintings and ceramics. Next to the museum is a garden where you can see a beautiful sculpture of a woman and child.
