Izvorska Monastery of the Assumption - a functioning Orthodox nunnery, located 2 km from the village of Izvor and 9 km from the town of Dimovo.

About the long history Izvorska monastery has been preserved almost no information. There is a legend according to which the monastery was founded in the XII century by Prince Izvor Tavorskim. After the fall of the kingdoms of Vidin, he was sacked and destroyed by the Turks, almost all the monks were killed, and the few survivors left the place and went to the abode of desolation.

Tradition says that in the middle of the XVII century from the monastery were only ruins. The initiator of the revival of the monastery became a monk Sylvester. Historians have established that the rebuilt monastery first called "Dry sharpen" ("Dry creek"), but he later returned to its former name - Izvorska.

In 1864, in the church at the monastery was built and installed an iconostasis - the work of the monks Cyril Gabriel and Chrysanthos. Earlier, inside the walls and dome of the temple were decorated with colorful frescoes, however, because of works on the reconstruction they have not survived to the present day.

In 1923 due to the donations of people on the territory of the monastery were restored. Artist-painter G. Zhelezyaka updated mural in the church and for the church wrote the new icons.
