Torre Bissara, also known as the Torre di Piazza - city tower in Vicenza facing façade of Piazza dei Signori and the famous Basilica Palladiana. Surging 82 meters from the ground, it is one of the tallest buildings in the city.

The first mention of Torre Bissara found in 1174, the year when the tower was built at the initiative of the family Bissari near their palace. Between 1211 and 1229 m-th years of Vicenza municipality purchased and the palace, intending to turn it into a residence of the podesta, and a tower. Miraculously, having escaped during the terrible earthquake in 1347, the year Bissara Torre in the middle of the 15th century was layered to the current 82 meters. Inside it housed the remains of some of the saints and the five bells. Then, for several centuries, the tower was reconstructed several times in order to maintain stability and appearance.

March 18, 1945, the year Torre Bissara with the Basilica Palladiana was bombed by the Anglo-American forces. The top of the tower caught fire, and the dome collapsed to the ground. This truncated form on the day of its residents saw Vicenza. In addition, we have broken bell that fell on the pavement area.

Immediately after the Second World War, began the restoration of Torre Bissara and the Basilica Palladiana, which caused a controversy in society as a result of the reconstruction of the shape of the tower has become somewhat different from the original. Not all the bells have been returned to its place as the sphere denotes moon phases and is located under the dial.

In 2002, the year the project was approved by a radical restoration of Torre Bissara, which was implemented in two parts. The first was intended to strengthen the entire structure (a problem characteristic of Vicenza, with its underground water), and the second was aimed at restoring the surface of the building and its decorations. The dial was painted blue, as probably it was on the original tower was returned to its original place a sphere with moon phases and bells.

Torre Bissara peculiarity is that in addition to the normal sound of the bells every half hour and every hour, it makes the melody and seven minutes to noon and seven minutes to 18 hours.
