Reserve "Cavagrande del Cassibile" - a vast geographical area, anthropological, archaeological, hydrological and speleological importance. It is spread over an area of 2700 hectares in the regions of Sicily Avola, Siracusa and Noto. The river Cassibile, or Kasiparis, as it was called by the ancient Greeks, flows through the reserve - for thousands of years it has formed a series of deep canyons here, stretching for 10 km.

The first inhabitants of these places were Siculo - protected inaccessible cliffs and had access to water in the 11-10 centuries BC Here they founded two small settlements. One was located in the north - and its ruins can still be seen from the observation deck, and the second - in the opposite direction, to the south. We have heard hundreds of tombs cut directly into the rocks next to each other on six parallel levels.

At the end of the valley the river has created a complex system of small cascades with transparent and crystal-clear water .  The most beautiful of them is best reached from the Avola Antica - the road will take about half an hour .  If we go further stages, you can come to the settlement Dyer .  And to further enjoy the beauty of these places, it is necessary to go for a couple of kilometers further towards the source of the river in the town Prize, which is a lake whose water is used in the HPP .  Along the way, you can cross a number of completely wild and pristine areas the person and see a variety of plants, which emit a wonderful aroma - sage, thyme, rue fragrant, mint and oregano, as well as brambles, ivy and oak, creates some difficulties for inexperienced travelers .  Along the banks of the river are spreading trees - Mediterranean willow, white and black poplars, tamarisk and branched amazing oriental plane trees, the oldest of which have a trunk diameter of 1, 5 meters .  Canyons Cavagrande - is the western border of the sycamore .

Among the typical inhabitants of the reserve can be called oilseed Slavka, who inhabit the undergrowth - a small bird, typical of the Mediterranean maquis undergrowth. The sky is often seen peregrine and kestrel, and there are hawks, soaring through the air on wings on.
