Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos is located in the north of the lake Voulismeni the street Paleologos, 74, a few minutes' walk from the city center. The museum was founded in 1970 and has a rich collection of archaeological finds of the prefecture of Lasithi.

The museum exposition is placed in eight exhibition halls and covers a huge period of history from the Neolithic to the Roman era. The museum's collection includes ceramics, stone sculptures, statues, household utensils, a variety of funerary artifacts, gold jewelry, bronze and ivory artifacts from a rare children's burial and more.

The most impressive exhibit of the museum is the skull of a young man, found in the Roman cemetery at Potamos near the town. The skull dates back to the 1st century AD and crowned with a golden diadem in the form of olive leaf. In the mouth of the skull was a silver coin from Polirinia (West Crete), the release of which has been dated to the reign of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. Coin, according to ancient tradition, the carrier had to pay Charon souls to the underworld Hades over the river Styx.

Of particular interest are the artifacts discovered during excavations of the Minoan cemetery of Aghia Fotia. This is a prehistoric cemetery, which was found 260 Minoan tombs, is the site of the largest archaeological sites in Crete. Founded here in 1600 various vessels made without the use of a potter's wheel and his style is similar to the Cycladic art.

Presented in the museum and artifacts from the Minoan settlement of Myrtos, among which the most important is considered the "Goddess of Myrtos" - a vessel in the form of a female figure. The museum also exhibits artifacts from the Minoan Palace of Malia, including a magnificent stone vessel sinks in the form of Triton.
