On the southeast coast of the island of Kefalonia, 37 km from the capital is a small resort town of Skala. The picturesque village is famous for its beautiful sand and pebble beaches with crystal clear water and pine forests.

This town was built in 1956 instead of the old city that the earthquake, which occurred in 1953, leveled. The ancient city of Rock is located about 5 km from the coast to the slopes of the hill (like most of the Greek cities to be able to avoid pirate attacks).

One of the main local attractions are the ruins of a Roman villa of the 3rd century BC, which were excavated in 1957. The highlight of the ancient buildings are well-preserved mosaic floor. Today this place is a museum and opened to the public in the morning. Also of interest are the ruins of the sanctuary of Apollo (6-7 century AD), which is about 3 km from the cliffs of the coast road leading to the town of Poros. From the fragments of the ancient temple of the foundation and Doric columns. Important historical artifacts found during the excavations are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli.

His popularity among tourists Rock began to gain in the early 1990s. Today this place is the biggest resort in the south of the island of Kefalonia, and in summer it attracts huge number of tourists. Here you will find a fine selection of hotels and apartments, excellent restaurants, taverns and cafes, shops, supermarkets and souvenir shops, pharmacies, ATMs and more. Rocks of the beach fully equipped with umbrellas and sun beds, and a part retains its naturalness.
