Writers Museum I.D.Vasilenko Taganrog is located on ul.Chehova, on the shore of the Azov Sea in a small one-story house built in 1906. From 1923 to 1966 here with his large family he lived and worked as a children's writer Ivan D. Vasilenko.

Ivan D. was born January 20, 1895 in the village now - the city of Makiyivka, Donetsk region, in a family of parish clerk. He was 7 years old when the family moved to Taganrog. A teacher by training, he became a writer in 39 years, when a serious illness (tuberculosis aggravated) confined him to bed. Writer and teacher I.D.Vasilenko writes for and about children, his novels and short stories brought him wide popularity and were published nearly 30 languages ​​of the world. The newspapers of the time his name is mentioned next to the A. Barto, composer Shostakovich, E.Vuchetichem sculptor, artistic director of the ensemble A. Alexandrov. By creation Vasilenko "asterisk", "Artemka circus", "The Magic Box" created by children's movies.

During World War II he worked in the army I.D.Vasilenko printing. I.D.Vasilenko died in Taganrog in May 1966 and is buried in the old cemetery. I.D.Vasilenko called the name of the children's library in Taganrog (Taganrog branch of the City Library. Anton Chekhov).

In 1988, the former apartment of the writer transferred to the museum-reserve.
