Monument to Peter the Great, located in the historic city of Taganrog on Peter Street at the gates of the city garden - this is one of the attractions of the city. The monument was made by famous sculptor MM Antokolsky. The casting of the monument was made in Paris, in the workshops of the brothers Thibault. Monument to Peter the Great was established at the request of the public and the city with funds donated by the natives of Taganrog, Anton Chekhov passed at a meeting with sculptors and Antokolsky Bernshtam in Paris. Inauguration of the monument to the founder of the city of Taganrog Peter I held in May 1903 in the presence of many residents and visitors alike.

In January 1924, instead of the figure of Peter I on a pedestal was a monument to Vladimir Lenin. A sculpture Piotr I the Great established a library in the lobby of Chekhov, where it stood until 1933 after it was moved to the building of the Local History Museum of the city of Taganrog. In 1940, the monument installed at the tip against the harbor. After the war, a monument to Peter I was returned to the Historical Boulevard, where it remains to this day.

The total height of the monument is 8, 8 m, a bronze sculpture - 3, 44 m, and himself a pedestal - 5, 4 m. The images in a full-length figure of Peter I dressed in the uniform of an officer of the Preobrazhensky Regiment.
