Monument to the outstanding Governor-General NE Nikiforaki located in the city of Stavropol on the prospect of Karl Marx, from the train station. The monument was erected in early 2003 with the support of Cultural and Educational Society of the Don and Azov Greeks "Tanais". The opening of the monument was timed to the 225th anniversary of the city of Stavropol. The name of the governor-general Zhukovsky Nikiforaki involves a lot of bright pages of Russian history.
Born NE Nikiforaki January 4, 1838 in a family of Greek EN Nikiforaki, a native of St. Petersburg province. Young N. Nikiforaki, received an excellent education at home, goes to one of the most prestigious military institutions in Russia - St. Petersburg Artillery School, from which he graduated with honors. After graduating from St. Michael's Academy N. Nikiforaki he went to serve in the Caucasus. He participated in various battles, for which it has repeatedly raised and awarded.
In 1864 Nikiforaki was assigned to the fort of Novorossiysk. After 10 years, he became a trustee of the Black Sea coastal areas, and another 2 years later - the chief of the Black Sea region. In 1887 N. Nikiforaki became a Major General, and a little later in the same year he was appointed Governor-General of Stavropol province.
During the reign of the new Governor-General was marked by this industrial boom. In Stavropol, in turn began to take effect creameries and distilleries, steam roller mills and others. In 1897, by order of the NE Nikiforaki installed the first telephone line in the North Caucasus, and soon the city began its work and the urban telephone exchange. Besides Stavropol Nikiforaki at first light bulbs were lit, and earned first in the Stavropol province electric power station.
February 15, 1904 NE Nikiforaki died. Buried Governor General in the wall of the temple of St. Andrew, built with it.
