Church of the Assumption, located in the city of Stavropol in the Assumption Cemetery, was laid in June 1847 Funds for its construction were donated by local merchants.

With the construction of the temple were used local materials: shelly lime-stone mountains Stavropol, lime from Pyatigorsk, Kuban and Tatar forest, sand from Orel beams. Construction of the church ended in 1849. The ceremonial consecration of the temple to the throne in the name of Our Lady of the Assumption on 15 August of the same year.

The basis of the architectural solutions of the temple has become a traditional three-part internal space (actually a temple porch and the altar), clearly expressed in his appearance. The central part of the church above the rest, it is crowned with an octagonal drum raised on the head with fixed main cross. In the corners of the roof you can see four more cupola with crosses. In 1873 the chapel was built on the south side of the church, consecrated in the name of the Ascension.

The church, located on the outskirts of the city, became a parish. There were baptisms, weddings, funerals. Church of the Assumption - the only one in the city, which remained valid under the Soviet regime. In the 60-ies. Church gradually began to crumble, so in 1966 it was overhauled. And three years later, the temple is recognized as an architectural monument of local importance.

In 1998, on the north side of the house on the old foundation was started construction of a new chapel, consecrated in the same year in the name of the Iberian Mother of God.

At the temple is a spiritual and historical complex, which includes the temple, blessing of water chapel, a gymnasium and a memorial cemetery.
