The State Museum of Urban Sculpture is located in St. Petersburg. In existence since 1939, and it is the only museum in Russia, engaged in research, conservation and restoration of monuments in urban open space.
The museum is run by plaques in 1500 and more than 200 monuments. The number of museum objects include Narva Triumphal Arch and Moscow, rostral column, group Horse on the Anichkov Bridge, the sphinx on the pier at the Academy of Fine Arts, the monuments to Peter I, Nicholas I, Catherine II, MV Lomonosov AS Pushkin, Alexander Suvorov, and many others. The main exhibition of the museum are the tombs and cemeteries of the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
Annunciation temple-tomb, built in 1717-1724 by the architects D. Trezzini and T. Schwertfeger is an old stone church of St. Petersburg, an outstanding architectural monument of the Petrine Baroque. Here lies the body of A. Suvorov arranged valuable artistic and historic tombstones XVIII-XIX centuries. The exposition presents a unique collection of works by talented sculptor of Russian classicism IP Martos: tombstones EI Gagarina, ES Kurakin NI Panin and others. Shrine rightfully named I Pantheon Russian: here are buried members of the royal family, famous statesmen of the XVIII century.
Lazarevskoye cemetery (now - Necropolis of the XVIII century) is one of the first in St. Petersburg. In 1923, it turned into an outdoor museum. There are more than 1,000 tombstones XVIII-early. XX centuries, some of which are monuments of contemporaries of Peter the Great, leaders of national science, history and culture, representatives of the most famous noble families in Russian history: DI Fonvizin, MV Lomonosov Field Marshals PI Shuvalov, BP Sheremetev, admirals NS Mordvinov, VY Chichagov widow AS Pushkin - NN Lansky, grandfather AS Pushkin - IA Hannibal and many others.
The Necropolis of Artists (formerly Tikhvin cemetery) there are about 200 tombstones of musicians, writers and artists of the XIX century, actors and theatrical figures of the XX-th-century XIX: MP Mussorgsky, MI Glinka, PI Tchaikovsky, IA Krylov, NM Karamzin, FM Dostoevsky, AA Ivanov II Shishkin, PA Fedotov, BM Kustodiev, AI Kuinji and others. Artistic tombstones XVIII-XX centuries are the works of the greatest masters of Russian monumental art: MI Kozlowski, IP Martos, VA Beklemisheva, FG Gordeev, AV Shchusev, AN Benoit, MK Anikushina.
An integral part of the memorial museum of the ensemble is also a museum-necropolis "Literatorskie catwalk" at the Volkov cemetery. Here are buried VG Belinsky, AN Radishchev, NS Leskov, IP Turgenev, IP Pavlov, DI Mendeleyev and many other prominent figures of science and culture of the Leningrad XX century.
