Fortress mom Calais - Roman-Byzantine building, located in the district Mamayka, at the mouth of Psakhe. The exact date of construction of the fortress, unfortunately, still unknown. However, it is believed that it was built about 1-4 century BC The original fortification was called Mokhorev.

The main purpose for which the fortress was built by MAMA-Calais, was the protection of the local trading post from the attack of pirates and nomads. After some time, outside the city walls built market square, where merchants were able to calmly deal with exchange and sell their goods without fear of any attacks and robberies. Gradually ordinary fortress began to develop into a large market, which was the cause of its destruction.

Archaeological research of the fortress Kale-Mamay began in 1820, but in 1886 all the works that were carried out with an uncertain periodicity, stopped altogether. And only in 1957 on the ruins of the fortress once again drew attention. The expedition was led by NV Anfimova and consisted of employees of the Sochi museum.

Due to lack of supervision walls almost completely destroyed. Preserved only two fence walls and partly another. Today the fortress Kale Mama research continues, but by fortification were only ruins, which, despite everything, are attracting large number of tourists.
