In the western part of the Aegean Sea lies the small Greek island of Skopelos (part of the archipelago Northern Sporades). This is one of the most beautiful and green islands of Greece. The name "Skopelos" is also the administrative center and main port of the island. The city is located in a picturesque bay in the form of an amphitheater, down the hills to the seashore. On a hilltop overlooking the city, and today we can see the ruins of a Venetian fortress (Castro), which was built on the spot where in ancient times was the ancient Acropolis. Here is located the church of St. Athanasius - the oldest temple on the island, built in the 11th century on the foundations of an ancient sanctuary with magnificent frescoes of the 16th century. From the summit of Castro offers stunning panoramic views of the island and the Aegean Sea.

The town is famous for a huge number of churches and chapels. Most of them are open only on certain holidays. You should definitely visit the Church of the Virgin, the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi and the Church of the Archangel Michael, and around the city - the monastery of St. Rigina and Evangelistria. Local attractions include the small and Ethnographic Museum.
