The first researcher monasteries Shumen Plateau was Karel Shkorpil. He and his followers have established that found in this area plants really once inhabited by hermits and monks. Direkliyata Monastery is located in a beautiful location about three kilometers north of the village of Osmar. On the eastern side of the valley is surrounded by steep rocky slopes of the Shumen Plateau. The locals call this place the Monastery valley.
