Bayraklı Jamia Mosque - one of the oldest buildings in the city Samokov. Located near the central square of the city, near the bus station. «Bayrak» from Turkish to be properly translated as "flag" and «Bayrakli» - it will be "to the flag." Archaeologists suggest that the building of the mosque was built from fragments of more ancient mosque of the XVI century. The upper part of the structure is made of wood, the bulk - stone.
Date of construction Bayraklı Jamia - in 1840, just before the complete liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke. In connection with this event, the mosque used for its intended purpose for a brief period. Nevertheless, the mosque is a living reminder of the five-century Turkish rule. Samokov was captured in 1371, but the city remained well-developed the entire period of the occupation, and even became the center zhelezodobyvayuschey industry among all the European provinces, belonged to the Turks.
Sign of the mosque is decorated with columns of wood, which are inscribed in the façade with frescoes. All this creates the illusion of the stage in the theater. These architectural solutions are prime examples of craftsmanship Samokov artists who could easily go beyond traditional painting.
Since the Bulgarian national revival just fell at the XVIII century, it is reflected in the construction of the mosque. Typical for the Bulgarian "national" style steel rotunda crowned by a dome covered with red tiles. Eaves inside and outside painted ornament with floral motifs predominate. Similar painting can be seen in the Samokov Orthodox churches, and even in the city's synagogue. Painting inside the mosque features a unique combination of traditional styles of European rococo and baroque. Perhaps confused a mosque and a Christian church inexperienced pilgrim would be easy if not for the minaret.
Since 1920, the mosque is closed and declared a cultural monument of national level. After the restoration of the building of the mosque turned into a museum.
