Red Island (or Island of St. Andrew) is located in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, near the town of Rovinj. The island is one of the important excursion points for tourists. Its area 0, 144 square kilometers and the coastline is two kilometers.

It is known that in the VI century on the island of St. Andrew was built by the Benedictine monastery, which was empty for two centuries. In the X century, the Franciscans settled on the island and later the territory of the Red Island was used as a place for vegetable oil production and cultivation of lime. Also on the island working cement factory.

A key role in the development of the island played Georg von Hutterot, who in 1890 becomes the fertile lands of the island of St. Andrew and began active work on restoration of the Benedictine monastery. As a result, the monastery became a palace, and the background Hutterot continues to invest in the island and on the site of the demolished cement factory, there is another verdant oasis.

In summer 2002, the flora of the island has been hit hard because of the tornado. The same fate befell the forests of neighboring islands. Therefore, Red Island today appears to us to essentially "cut" form than he was before.
