Aksai Fortress Museum is located near the village of Aksai Berdanosovka. The fortress was earthy, built according to the canons of war with the inherent to our ancestors, the builders of the thoroughness and practicality. First, according to the plan of fortifications, dug trenches and open space for the casemates, then they obkladyvayut brick, thus building a wall of the future strengthening. On the walls were put joists and joist, which is filled with several layers of carefully compacted and dried clay layers, it was mined right there on the bank of the river Aksai. The ceilings have been provided for ventilation ducts. The thickness of the earthen ceiling was 10 meters and has been a reliable protection against shelling.

Aksai earthen fortress was built in 1763, almost simultaneously with the birth of Rostov-on-Don. In the final version, it looked like a mound the size of 15 by 10 meters and belonged to the fortress of Dmitry Rostovsky. At the disposal of the defenders were 36 guns, howitzers, superior to any ship gun range and the number of buckshot, that is, the power of destruction. Several of these guns are presented in the museum. The underground casemates impressive size could accommodate a squadron of cavalry.

At the site of a fortress in the middle of the XVIII century was the royal first, and then the customs outpost and a small settlement of Ust-Aksai. Military-strategic importance Aksay fortress lies in its geographical position at the crossroads of trade routes to eight, including on the way to the capital of the Don Cossacks - Cherkassky. During the Russian-Turkish wars in the fortress it was entrusted with the task of Defense attached to Russia by Peter I of Azov.

Today, the exposition of the museum complex is represented by cold steel and firearms, household items and tools of the customs service, handwritten documents of previous years. After several phases of restoration work, Aksai outpost became part of Aksay Military History Museum. Archaeological research of the fortress continued.
