Misericordia Church is located in the central square, near the Cathedral of Se. This area is considered one of the largest and most beautiful in Portugal. In the square, in addition to historical landmarks, located just a lot of small shops where you can buy traditional souvenirs Portugal, and local restaurants where you can enjoy specialty food, which is famous for Viseu.

The construction of this monumental building was started in 1775 .  The facade is made in the Rococo style, on the roof are two small bell towers .  Despite the fact that the facade is made in the Rococo interior of the church is made in the neoclassical style, which is characterized by simplicity of form .  Inside there are three majestic wooden altar decorated with gold and adorned with decorative carved elements .  The main altar of the temple is decorated with a sculpture of Our Lady of Mercy (Nossa Senhora da Misericordia) .  The Virgin sits on a throne and knelt in front of her two petitioners .  The altar of the Chapel of the nineteenth century also decorated with carved elements .  Sacristy ceiling is made of wood and painted with local artist Jose Monteiro Nelas .  On the walls of the temple are paintings nineteenth century with the image of Our Lady of the Sorrowful (Nossa Senhora das Dores-) and Judgement .  These paintings were painted by a local artist Jose Antonio Pereira . 

To get to the church, need to climb the stairs that leads to the Baroque portico and balcony. The church walls are painted white, which stand out against the backdrop of granite columns. They attract the attention of the large windows of the church, which are adorned with decorative elements.
