Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde - a Danish national museum where you can learn more about the history and the device ships, seafaring, shipbuilding, used in prehistoric times and the Middle Ages.

In 1070, five Viking ships were deliberately sunk in the Roskilde Fjord in order to block a crucial time in the canal and to protect Roskilde from enemy attack from the sea. The five ships were named Skuldelevskimi ships, in 1962 they were raised from the depths of the sea. It turned out that these five ships belonged to completely different classes of ships, from cargo to the war.

Viking Ship Museum was established in 1969 specifically to show the Roskilde Fjord and present five ships found. In the late 1990s, the museum has expanded thanks to new discoveries: 9 more able to detect ships, among which was the longest military Viking ship ever found, scientists, up to 36 meters in length.

In the workshop the museum, visitors can observe the work of skilled craftsmen, recreating prehistoric replica ships. The archaeological workshop you can see how the finds are stored and studied. In summer, children and adults can enjoy a variety of games to play outdoors.

Museum with a variety of departments and artifacts that reveal the Viking age, their lives, their art conquest of the seas has become, along with the Roskilde Cathedral, one of the most popular attractions of the city.
