More than 300 years ago, the village was founded Kachanova. It is believed that the village of nearly all the time in a state of war, because the state near the border with the constantly postponed, and residents had to defend the interests of their own country. The village and now is the border - only 12 kilometers from Kachanova to Latvia. From time to time, and it changed the name of the village: and called Kachanova and Pokrovsky and Kachanova Sloboda. The village is located near the lake and is surrounded on all sides by forest. In the center of the village stands the church of St. Nicholas. The church was built on a small hill. From afar visible dome of sky-blue color for many kilometers can hear them ringing. Extraordinarily beautiful temple in the spring when the dome as if drowning in lace branches of tall lime. The church is located in the ancient graveyard. In this cemetery are buried former parish priests.

The present church was built of stone on the site of the old, wooden. As the local legend, the wooden church built landlords Radoshevskie: Stefan and Anna, who were later buried in the churchyard at the church. From inventory Klirovye statements imply that the church in the churchyard Kachanova Sloboda was rebuild in 1790, thanks to the efforts Bekleshevoy Alexandra B., landowner from the village of Pokrovskoye, also had the invaluable help and parishioners. She who arranges a new stone church Bekleshova Alexander died in November 1809, it was buried in the churchyard. Now, the place of her burial is difficult to determine, despite the fact that the efforts of parishioners of all graves are well maintained and kept in order.

The new church was built of bricks and boards, adequate lighting, and quite spacious. Inside the temple is divided into two halves. Here there are two altars in the main part - the throne in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker, and pridelnyh - in the name of Archdeacon Stephen.

In the church there are many paintings of ancient icons that were moved from the old church. One of the main relics of the church - Altar cross. He was the son of the landowner Bekleshovoy brought from Jerusalem. Cross Arab work was bought by the traders when it was brought up to worship at the temple of the Holy Sepulchre, and then brought to the Kachanovsky church. Another not less valuable relic - the icon "All Who Sorrow joy." Not so long ago it was celebrated a century, but how old icon actually nobody knows, information on its origin not, we only know that in 1908 it donated the St. Nicholas Church in Kachanov. And especially revered icon of St. Nicholas.

In December 1865 the church was opened Kachanovsky rural school. He opened it on. Paul Dubrovsky, who taught children to read and write. Those wishing to learn to read and write was not so little. In 1910, the school has learned 28 girls and 64 boys. Church led a considerable educational and educational work among the population. Deacon Fedor Konstantinov and painter decorated the temple inside and outside of the original painting. Unfortunately, the external painting is now barely visible.

At 120 meters from the church in the pines is yet another cemetery. It is lined with coniferous and deciduous trees and fenced by a stone wall. In the middle of the cemetery stood four-cross with the image on it eight-pointed cross, as well as the word "loins". There is speculation that the cross was erected in memory of those killed and buried here soldiers during the invasion of Livonians in the 16th century.

The Church needs restoration. Services are conducted in only one part of the church, main chapel of Saint Nicholas in need of repair.
