Just a few minutes walk north from the ruins of the royal palace, is the area known as the Quadrangle, which is the ruins of ancient buildings, located on an elevated area bounded by the wall. There is the largest concentration of centuries of architectural heritage, which you will see in the ancient cities. In addition there is also the ruins of the house of images, the temple of Bodhisattva and holy Bodhi tree. Walk on this earth, as in other shrines, can only barefoot.

In the southeast of the quadrangle is Vatadage (round house relics) typical for Sri Lanka. Its outdoor terrace is 18m in diameter and a second terrace has four inputs, which are stone guards. Moonstone on the northern entrance is considered the best in Polonnaruwa. Four inputs are to the central repository of relics with four seating Buddhas. Stone Shield is considered to be a later addition to the house relics. Probably it was made at Nissanka Malle.

In the southern part of the quadrangle is Thuparama Gedige, or the house of images, the smallest gedige (hollow Buddhist temple with thick walls) at Polonnaruwa. The roof of it remained unchanged. It was built during the reign of Parakramabahu I. Inside, there are a few images of the Buddha, but they are barely visible in daylight.

Gal Pota (Stone Book), located to the east of the house relics and a huge stone picture book "ol". A length of 9 m, width - 1, 5 m, and the thickness from 40 cm to 66 cm. The inscription indicates that this edition Nissanka Malla. Most of his praises of his virtues as king, but in a footnote also stated that the slab weighs 25 tons and dragged her out of Mihintale.

In addition, built Nissanka Malle main temple for Buddhist relics, the tooth of the Buddha was believed was built in 60 days.

Nissanka Malla was also responsible for Lata-Mandapaya. This unique structure consists of a lattice of stone fence, imitating wooden fence with slogans and railing and ambient storage for small relics. Storage is surrounded by stone pillars in the shape of lotus stalks that are topped with closed buds. The story goes that Nissanka Malla often sat in this building and enjoyed Buddhist texts.

Almost nothing is known about Satmahal Prasad. It is in the form of a stepped pyramid of six floors, each of which is smaller than the preceding (first seven).

Temple of the Tooth Relic - atadage (translated from Sinhala is the eighth house the Buddha's tooth) - the only extant at Polonnaruwa structures built during the reign of Vizhayabahu I.
