Nature reserve "Lama Bianca" was founded in 1987 on an area of 1407 hectares. Vertical drop in the reserve is about 1500 meters - from the top of Monte Amaro height of 2795 meters to the bottom of the Valle d'Orto. Geographically reserve belongs to the municipality of Sant Eufemia a Maiella in the province of Pescara in the Italian region of Abruzzo. And the borders "Lama Bianca" with Vallone del Orfento reserve and national park "Maiella".
Typically Apennine vegetation in the reserve "Lama Bianca" varies from the beech forests located at an altitude of a thousand meters, to the so-called "Lunar" on the highest plateau of the mountain massif of Maiella. Especially in science and natural value of the plants are endemic, that is, those that are found only in a particular area, and a variety of shrubs and herbs. In beech forest underbrush and thickets of mountain pine that cover hundreds of acres of nature reserve, you can see the gentian, fire and martagon lily and wild peonies. And on the highest rocks grow beautiful Alpine edelweiss.
Among the wild animals that have found refuge in the reserve "Lama Bianca", whose territory is only slightly affected by human activity, there are brown bears and Apennine wolves, red deer and roe deer, chamois of Abruzzo and unimaginable number of bird species, of which stands out, above all, the European rock partridge.
In the reserve laid a lot of hiking and cycling trails and some trails have been designed specifically for people with disabilities.
