Cathedral of San Cetteo - is the main church of Pescara, is located in Via D'Annunzio. The Cathedral is dedicated to the great martyr saint Cetteo, the patron saint of the city and its bishop. Since 1982 he is the chair of the Diocese of Pescara-Penne. The current building of the cathedral in Neo-Romanesque style, was originally called the Temple of Atonement, it was built in the 1930s on the site of the medieval church of San Cetteo.

The construction of the new cathedral took place during the construction boom caused by the creation in 1927 of Pescara and the united province of the same name. By the time the medieval church of San Cetteo fell into disrepair, and it was decided to demolish. Preserved only some fragments of the building. For the start of construction of the new cathedral lobbied Gabriele D'Annunzio, a native of Pescara, and one of the most prominent poets of Italy. He once was baptized in the old church. He also generously sponsored the construction of a new, because I wanted to it was resting his mother. Construction work, which lasted from 1933 to 1938-th years, led by the architect Cesare Batstsani. The facade of the cathedral was rebuilt after the Second Mirovoyny.

Initially, the church was called the Temple of Atonement - Tempio della Conciliazione, which has traditionally been associated with prisoners in 1929 Lateran Pacts between the fascist government of Italy and the Vatican City. And in 1949, the church proclaimed cathedral.

Despite the fact that the building is a modern cathedral, it clearly shows the influence of the architectural traditions of Abruzzo, first of all - the Romanesque style. Part of it also repeats the shape of the church of Santa Gerusalemme 11th century. Typical is a strict rectangular facade, decorated with round window-socket, - that was the choice of the architect and D'Annunzio. Portals with round arches reflect the internal division of the church into three aisles. On the north side is adjacent to the cathedral bell tower, consisting of an octagonal top floor, resting on a square base. And the south side was built a small baptistery.

Inside the cathedral, as mentioned above, it consists of three chapels, separated by arcades with marble columns. The choir ends in an apse. In one of the chapels of the cathedral is the Chapel of San Cetteo, and in another - the tomb of d'Annunzio mother, Louise de BENEDICTIS for which the sculptor Arrigo Minerbio created a tombstone in the form of an arch with the reclining figure of a young woman. The interior of the cathedral is decorated with icons and images of various saints of the 17th century. Of particular note is the body, which is considered one of the best in Abruzzo.
