Abbey of San Clemente and Kazauriya located on the territory of the small town of Castiglione and Kazauriya in the province of Pescara in the Italian region of Abruzzo. It was founded in 871, the year of Louis II, great-grandson of King Charlemagne, a vow, given to them while in detention in the Duchy of Benevento. Originally the abbey was dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and the 872-year - St. Clement, whose remains moved here in the same year.

Throughout its history, the abbey was pillaged several times, including on the part of the Saracens in 920, the year and the Normans in 1076 and 1097th years. After looting the last Benedictine abbot father Grimoald initiated the reconstruction of the building of the abbey, which in 1105, the year was pereosvyaschen. True, the work on the construction of a new building completed only at the end of the 12th century.

The facade of the abbey precedes the portico with columns and capitals, below it are three of the portal. Average and the biggest size has architraves beam and a tympanum with sculptures depicting scenes from the life of St. Clement and the history of the abbey. In the center of the tympanum you can see a figure of St. Clement in the papal vestments, the right of the saints are Fabio and Cornelius, and the left - the abbot LEONATO in which was completed reconstruction of the building. The bronze doors were made in 1191, the year - they are divided into 72 rectangular panels with images of items such as crosses, abbots, rosaries, and 14 castles, which were in charge of the abbey.

Inside the now deconsecrated church preserved a wonderful Easter chandelier and the massive pulpit, dating back to the 12th century. The church consists of a central nave, two aisles and a semicircular apse. The main altar is an early Christian tomb set on ciborium of the 14th century. Nearby you can see a large marble cancer with the relics of St. Clement. And in the crypt of the traces of the first building of the abbey, founded in the 9th century.
