Zoo Pecs has a unique history. On the wall next to the windows of the offices that informs a memorial plaque: "Built workers of Pécs in 1960-61, for 45,367 working hours, free of charge."

The opening of the zoo held on 19 August 1960, but work on its improvement is still continuing. At the 4-hectare zoo currently presents about 400 animals of 70 species from five continents.

  Since 1974, the zoo for educational purposes organizes summer camps for children. The zoo is open all year round, during the year, regardless of the season, the zoo hosts various entertainment events, allowing the park to attract about 120 000 visitors annually.
