A small museum Ossip Zadkine is located in the house of the sculptor near the Jardin du Luxembourg, in the street d'Assas. Master bequeathed his work to Paris, and his widow, Valentine Prax, dying, doing the will of her husband.

Ossip Zadkine, who became one of the greatest sculptors of the XX century - born in Vitebsk, graduated chetyrёhklassnoe city school with Marc Chagall. In his youth he studied in London and Paris, where he became friends close with Apollinaire, Picasso, Modigliani, Bourdelle, Matisse. In the First World War he volunteered for the front, was gassed. During World War II he lived and worked in the United States. In 1953, Rotterdam has set its most probably, the famous sculpture "The Wounded City" echoes the "Guernica" by Picasso - falling on his knees screaming man with a torn heart. This work was dedicated to the tragic fate of Rotterdam completely destroyed and burned the Nazi air force May 14, 1940. France considers Tsadkina one of its largest national artists. In 1966, the sculptor was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor. He is buried in Paris at the Montparnasse cemetery.

Ossip Zadkine museum was opened in 1982 in the house where the master lived and worked from 1928 until his death. Landscape architect Gilles Clément was able to convincingly place in the museum's sculpture garden, designed for open spaces, including a copy of the "wounded city". In total there are now more than 300 works on display, including the extraordinary beauty of the "Golden Bird", as well as drawings of the sculptor, his gouaches, photographs and tapestries. Museum exhibits allow us to trace the evolution of a creative master who gradually moving away from Cubism, he formed his own or with the incomparable style. Three or four times a year on the street d'Assas are also contemporary art exhibitions.

The exposure is small, it takes only five rooms (except, of course, garden). The museum has an important feature: all its exhibits are available for the visually impaired and the blind. The sculptures can be touched, are located next to each special plates and placards, which are made in Braille. This was the will of Ossip Zadkine.
