The appearance of a city of churches with two identical names can be easily explained. In a period of Ostrava were connected to separate settlements, which were now parts of the city. Every town, erecting a temple on its territory, could give him any name. So in Ostrava were two temples of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
One of them is on the territory of the urban district called Przhivoz. The temple is in the neo-Gothic style and holds a dominant position in the area of Svatopluk Cech.
At the end of the XIX century Przhivoza residents had their church and attended services at the church of St. Wenceslas. This situation does not suit many people, so in 1890 a commission was established, whose task is to control the construction of a new church on the main square Przhivoza.
For the construction of the temple was invited from Vienna's most famous architect Camillo Sitte. All believed that in 1898, the temple will be a function. Why is it called a date? The fact that this year was a jubilee - the emperor of Austria-Hungary, Franz Joseph I celebrated 50 years in office. However, the construction of the church was delayed, and it was consecrated only in 1899 - that is, one year after the scheduled date. For the grand opening of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary invited Archbishop T. Kohn.
The temple was very solid and impressive. It is decorated with two tall towers and an open gallery. Tower turned into a belfry. Three local bell made nearly a century ago - in 1921.
The interior of the church is strict and restrained, so that nothing would distract worshipers from prayer.
