In Olomouc you can find a completely different fountains: modern, created with the latest technology, illuminated by bright lights, and unusual, started in a cubic or a minimalist style, which are weird pillars, standing in the middle of the lawn. However, the most valuable fountains, which are considered the property of the Czech Republic, 6 buildings are created in XVII-XVIII centuries. They are named after Roman deities. This group includes, and the Fountain of Neptune - the oldest fountain in Olomouc. It was established in 1683 through the efforts of two talented people - Michael Mandika and Vaclav Shyullera. They divided the work on the fountain. M. Mandika incisor belongs to a statue of the sea god Neptune, and B. Shyuller engaged in the development of the water tank and the steps leading to it. Neptune sends his trident down, urging the horses, whose mouths and pour water jet. Just below you can see the signature trident M. Mandika.
Sculptor M. Mandik was in Olomouc at the end of the 60s of the XVII century and entered the service of the local bishop, who attaches it to work in their own residence in Kroměříž. It must be said, some outstanding works of art in this period M. Mandik not created. Nevertheless, he was able to obtain an order of the local authorities for the construction of several city churches and two fountains.
Baroque Neptune fountain adorns the square Dolny. Already in the XX century during the reconstruction of the fountain below it were discovered the remains of an old chapel, consecrated in the name of St. Margaret. Financing the construction of the chapel in 1417 entered into a guild of local merchants. Over time, the flow of funds for its construction stopped, the unfinished chapel for some time stood in the square, corn all eyes and preventing movement, so in 1520 the city decided to demolish it. And now the only Fountain of Neptune resembles modern tourists that once there was a temple.
