In the center of the old town, on the banks of the river Pegnitz is an ancient hospital of the Holy Spirit, built in 1332. This is one of the largest surviving hospitals in Germany. Patio hospital decorated with wooden gallery. For the lepers, kept separate from other patients, was built a separate building.

In one of the buildings of the hospital of the Holy Spirit with the 1424 to 1796 kept the symbols of the Holy Roman Empire. Now the hospital is located a nursing home and a small restaurant.
