Against the background of many museums and galleries of Cyprus, which presents excavated works of art that date back to antiquity and the Middle Ages, located in Nicosia the State Gallery of Modern Art stands out strongly enough. It is located right in the historic center of this ancient city, very close to the Venetian walls. This museum offers a truly unique collection of works by artists and craftsmen of Cyprus, who worked over a period of time starting from the end of XIX century. Also, there is a large collection of work and very young Cypriot artists.
The gallery was created relatively recently - in 1994 and is part of the City Art Centre, which is housed in an old power plant.
The museum's collection was going for a long time - in the process attended museums, public organizations, creative communities in Cyprus, Greece and other European countries. In the museum you can see the work of different styles and genres: painting, sculpture and installations. The main feature of almost all the exhibits presented in the Gallery is a wonderful combination of art and technology. Particular attention should be paid to prints made by modern masters - they are such amazing precision engraving mimic the Middle Ages that distinguish them can only be a specialist.
From time to time in the Gallery hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists and from other countries.
What's especially nice visit to the Art Center for free.
