Irakleia (Irakli) - a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is located between the islands of Naxos and Ios. Irakleia - the most western island of Small Cyclades group. The island is 18 square kilometers and coastline - around 30 km. Today the island only two settlements - the administrative center of the village of Panagia Irakli (located in the central part of the island), and the port of Agios Georgios.

Irakleia - a picturesque natural landscapes, many magnificent beaches (Livadi, Agios Georgios, Alim, Vorino Spilia, Karvunolakos etc.), crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea, a unique flavor of local communities, as well as enchanting atmosphere of cordiality and hospitality of the people of the island . Virtually untouched by mass tourism island of Irakleia - an ideal place for lovers of quiet secluded holiday away from civilization in harmony with nature.

Among the attractions of the island special attention certainly deserves the Cave of St. John - one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Greece with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites .  You should definitely go up to the mountain and the Papas (420 m above sea level), from the top of which offers breathtaking panoramic views, as well as to visit one of the most beautiful places on the island - Merihas bay surrounded by picturesque cliffs, the height of which sometimes exceeds 100 m .  Among the most interesting temples Irakli worth mentioning the church of the Virgin Mary (probably the most impressive building of the island), the church of St. George (1834), the church of Taxiarchis with a magnificent iconostasis and the Chapel of Prophet Elias .  Also of interest are the remains of a fortified settlement from the Hellenistic period (the second half of the 4th century BC . e . ), Built on the ruins of the temple of Zeus and the sanctuary of the goddess Tyche (Tyche) and the abandoned village of St. Athanasius - a fine example of Cycladic architecture .

Irakleia Island - a paradise for bird watchers. In 2010, the island had recorded 175 species of birds, including quite rare and endangered species.

You can visit the island Irakli both the one-day visit and spend their holidays (or a part thereof), although in the latter case it is necessary to take care of booking accommodation well in advance, since the choice is very limited. Get to Irakli can Naxos and Paros, as well as from the Athenian port of Piraeus.
