In the central part of the Aegean Sea is one of the most picturesque islands of the Cyclades - Mykonos. The island is famous not only for its magnificent beaches, but also a huge number of church buildings, of which there are about 400.

In a picturesque location by the sea is one of the most famous and beautiful churches of Mykonos - the church of Panagia Paraportiani. Its name is translated from the Greek literally means "Mother of God at the gates." Perhaps this name is not accidental, since in reality the church was built at the entrance to the medieval fortress, which, unfortunately, has not survived to the present day. The peculiarity of this amazing architectural structures in fact that it consists of five small churches, which have been completed and the next on top of existing buildings.

Center of the temple complex is the Church of the Holy Estafiosa, construction of which began in the second half of the 15th century. Over time around the main buildings were erected three church - St. Sozontasa, St. Anargyroi and St. Anastasia. Together, they became the foundation for the construction of the fifth - the Church of the Virgin Mary, which was completed in the 17th century. In 1920, the global reconstruction was carried out this amazing architectural ensemble.

The snow-white church of Panagia Paraportiani - One of the most photographed landmarks and one of the most famous architectural structures in Greece. The church is located in the historic town of Chora in the Castro District, and is the hallmark of Mykonos.
