Church of St. John the Baptist is located in the northwestern part of Melnik - the smallest city in Bulgaria. Local people call the Temple Church St. Yani. John the Baptist, after whom the temple is named - one of the most revered saints in Christianity.

The church was built in the XVIII-XIX centuries. The building is a two-storey building made of stone with wooden elements - balconies, staircases and others. The interior of the church are decorated with frescoes: the columns are painted with garlands and bouquets, the space above the iconostasis and bishop's throne is decorated with colorful images of birds - pigeons, peacocks and others. An exceptional artistic value iconostasis and royal doors. Icons for the church were painted by Jacob Nicholas Lazarus Argirova.

St. John's Church is a historical monument of national importance and is one of the objects of cultural reserve (open-air museum) Melnik. Currently, the temple is still acting as the parish church cemetery.
