Curio is one of the oldest and most famous ancient city-states of Cyprus. It is located very close to the modern Limassol on the 70 meter hill. It was built in the XII century BC Mycenaeans - one of those who took part in the legendary Trojan War. The town has existed for a long time, and throughout its history it has belonged to different peoples: Greeks, Romans, Byzantines. Unfortunately, in the IV century it was completely destroyed by a strong earthquake.

This ancient city has long stirred the minds of scientists, not only in Cyprus but also in other countries. For the first time its ruins were discovered in the XIX century, and permanent digs in this place have been conducted since the beginning of the 30s of the last century and is still going on.

Though Curio and preserved to this day is much better than other ancient cities of the island, but in its territory there are only a few plants, to determine the purpose of which was not difficult. For example, there you can see the ruins of the city's main gates, which were called Paphos. Not far from them is a building that has been called "mosaic of Achilles" by a well distinguishable mosaic patterns on its walls and floors depicting scenes of the heroic feats of the famous Greek. The very construction of a complex of several small buildings located rectangle and in the middle is a large outdoor courtyard. Basically in Kourion can be seen only the remains of walls and foundations of houses, office buildings and fortifications.

However, the most interesting attraction of the city is a well-preserved amphitheater, a visit which will leave a lot of impressions. With its top stands a beautiful view of the surrounding area and, in addition, there are still held performances.
