Krasnoyarsk Art Museum named after VM Surikov - is the largest repository of collections of works of art of the city. History of Art Museum began in 1921, when the local authorities have raised the issue of opening an art gallery in the city. Unfortunately, the decision has not been taken, but on the basis of collections of works of art that had been stored at the end of the second half of the XIX century. in the city museum, it was organized by the department of art and art of antiquity named after VI Surikov.

A large number of works of art came from private collections. A huge contribution to the accumulation of works of art made local gold mines and a true connoisseur of art Kuznetsov. At the time of completion of the post-revolutionary government agencies involved in the museum, so that in the museum were many wonderful works of famous painters such as work Repin, V. Polenov, M. Nesterov, and it is not the entire list of names of the artists whose works can be seen today in Funds gallery.
  After some time, the museum's collection has replenished with works donated to the Ministry of Culture of the USSR and the Russian Federation, as well as the Krasnoyarsk branch of Union of Artists.

To visit the museum was opened in May 1958 with an exhibition consisted of 300 works of not only Russian but also foreign art.
