Collegium Maius - the oldest building of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

The university was founded in 1364, and 36 years later the King Vladislav II Jagiello granted the university its own building. Previously, the property belonged to the wife of the King - Queen Jadwiga. Rebuild has finished building the university did not. Since the mid 15th century the building was fixed for its current name - Collegium Maius, which means "The Greatest College." The Collegium were placed to lecture halls, living rooms for university professors, a library and a shared hall. The building in the Gothic Revival style in 1840-1856 years have adapted to the needs of growing library. Works on reconstruction led by Polish architect and restorer Charles Kremer, and in 1861 the case concluded Herman Bergman. In 1931, construction began on a new building for the university library, which was completed in 1939. After moving the book fund in the Collegium Maius was opened Museum of the Jagiellonian University.

Currently, the museum displays objects related to the history of the university. For example, in the collection is a set of astronomical instruments, which were used by Copernicus.

In Soviet times the building Collegium filmed scenes of the film "Shield and Sword".
