Local History Museum named after NI Grodekov - this is one of the oldest museums in the city of Khabarovsk and the entire region. Regional Museum was founded in April 1894 the main initiator of its creation was made by the Amur Governor-General, the first chairman of the Amur department of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society NI Grodekov. At the base of the museum and its collections creation attended by prominent public figures and scientists, historians and enthusiasts.

By the beginning of XX century. He became well-known museums of the Amur region. The museum exhibits are not only Russian, but also at the international exhibitions in Kazan, Novgorod, Paris and Chicago. In 1902 the museum was named after N. Grodekov, which is considered a "true leader and inspirer" of museums in the Far East of Russia.

Over ten years the museum led an outstanding writer, explorer, scientist and museum worker VK Arsenyev, under whose leadership the agency has become a center of research of local history of the Russian Far East, and after a while became the leading scientific and educational institutions in the Khabarovsk Territory. In 1965, the Regional Museum is recognized as one of the best museums of the RSFSR.

After 10 years, the main building of the museum made an addition, which expanded the exhibition area. In the annexe placed panorama "Volochaivs'ka battle", only in the Far East and one of three in the country. From 1995 to 1999, the museum has been updated exhibition called "Nature of the Khabarovsk Krai", new exposure. In 1998, in a separate building located near the opening of the Archaeological Museum.
