Monument to the Heroes Eltigen "Sail" is located in a quiet and charming resort village Geroevka (previously - Eltigen), located at the extreme southern point of Kerch Bay.

The monument was opened on May 8, 1985 The author of the concept of the monument was made by sculptor and architect LV Tazba. The central part of the monument - a plastic composition "Sail". The monument is 20 meters high and weighing 2000 tons is made of reinforced concrete on Portland cement.

Eltigen small village became famous throughout the Soviet Union in November 1943 .  thanks to the heroism of courageous Soviet soldiers, who laid the foundation for the liberation of Crimea .  During the Kerch-Feodosiya operation on the night of November 1, 1943 .  from the Crimean village Eltigen landed marines who seized a small bridgehead on the bank, went down in history of the Great Patriotic War, entitled "Tierra del Fuego" .  It really was "Tierra del Fuego": small landing site sweep through .  But despite this, eltigentsy buried in the earth, holding almost forty days, beating out several attacks per day .  Warriors drew off nearly all the enemy forces, thereby facilitating the landing of the main forces landing .  They were supported by soldiers on boats, which often made their way to Taman shore through a wall of artillery fire, the heavy artillery located on the other side of the strait, and the female pilots of the 46th Regiment of night bombers .

By order of the command, the night December 7, 1943, everyone who could move around - more than 1, 5 thousand brave paratroopers went on break. After defeating the enemy ring, the fighters reached Kerch and, having put an unexpected blow from the rear of the German invaders, went to Mithridates and adjacent streets. Another four days were fighting behind enemy lines.

Today, a monument to the Heroes Eltigen is in charge of the Kerch city council and require major repairs.
