The oldest building in Kaliningrad is considered to be the building of the former Catholic and later Lutheran church Juditten Church, located on the outskirts of the historic city. Today the building is St. Nicholas Church at the convent.
Date of construction of the building is not known, but the first historical mention dates back to 1288 year, when a Catholic church with a rich interior was consecrated as the Church of the Virgin Mary. He decorated the altar and painted murals made of gold, and the subject of mass pilgrimage served as the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary standing on a crescent moon, for centuries miraculously healed of ailments. The church was built partly of large boulders, partly of brick. To this day also survived some elements of decoration of facades in the form of coats of arms of the Teutonic Knights grand masters. Near the church was located a cemetery of prominent citizens of the city (partially preserved).
From 1948 to 1985 the building of the Church of the Virgin Mary Koenigsberg was empty and destroyed. After the transfer of the ruins of the Lutheran church of Russian Orthodox Church restored the building, and its territory was founded the first Orthodox monastery in the Kaliningrad region. In the historic building is St. Nicholas Cathedral. From 1986 to this day held in the cathedral service.
Since December 1999, the monastery was transformed into a female. Now the St. Nicholas Monastery Sunday school arranged and charity dinners. Around the old building is a small landscaped park.
Attraction will be interesting both pilgrims and lovers of history.
